So something in my gut tells me that Mark may be the Mole and here is why...

This is the quote from his bio on the FC Milwaukee website shown above - "I coach soccer because I love the game and never stop learning from the game. I enjoy working with kids and enjoy helping them develop as both players and people. I am coaching with FC Milwaukee because I enjoy working with people whom I love and respect like I would my own family."

So he really, really "loves" the kids (supposedly the U-14 boys) and staff he works with on the FC Milwaukee soccer club, yet he was willing to leave them in the midst of their Spring soccer tournament schedule, this one even taking place on May 4th, just as the Mole finished filming - http://www.mksc.org/tournament_details.php?tournament_id=23&from=tournaments.php

Coach Lambrect is very dedicated and successful as evidenced by his championship record, yet he was willing to walk away from his team during the critical practice time leading up to the tournaments. Granted, there are many other coaches available on the FC Milwaukee squad (32 to be exact) but it appears Mark was the top coach for this age group judging on his experience and time with this soccer club.

So what would make this man walk away from his passion. It couldn't be just for the hope of winning the money (that is too big a gamble to risk his reputation for the elusive big prize.) He must have something a little more tangible in his pocket, like the assurance that he will be in the show the whole time, something like the guaranteed $100,000 the Mole gets, plus the noteriety of being part of a select group.

Anyway, these are my initial thoughts. I still need a little more research done, but Coach Lambrect is a little more hard to dig up info on...just like a mole in his hole.

Here is Mark's updated Bio from the ABC board:

"Mark is an extremely competitive high school soccer coach and world history teacher. He plays to win and has no tolerance for whiners. He is a huge fan of The Mole, having seen all the previous seasons. Mark will be very intense and focused about playing the game. His only weakness is his family. Mark and his wife struggled financially when they first married. In order to make life easier Mark put himself through college while working 2 jobs. He can be very emotional about his wife of 18 years and his three children, who he considers his life. Today with another baby on the way, both he and his wife continue to work 2 jobs. Mark says he thrives on competition and being challenged. He says his IQ is 143. His strategy is to figure out an "end game", where he foresees the end of the most advantageous route for himself and does everything in his power to manipulate things towards that result."

* Crocodile tears? - Mark's crying about his wife having to work seems very contrived. Now, I am not suggesting that Mark doesn't love his wife and, in fact, I believe that if anything can make Mark get "all teary" it would be Brenda. But I find it hard to believe that this would be such a huge "issue" at this stage in his marriage of 18 years. Sure, they are expecting a new baby but they are doing well in Mukwanago. (/Stalker Mode ON) Here is a picture of their house they bought in 2002 for around $250,000 (which is close to the bottom of the value index for the neighborhood) and they look very typical of a family of moderate means. Notice the playground equipment for the kids, too.:

They have the basic foundation of being successful in the years to come. If things are getting too tight financially, I'm sure Mark (and his 143 IQ) is able to know to back off on an extravagant lifestyle which is probably not too difficult to do living in Wisconsin. To be honest, his wife shouldn't HAVE to work two jobs unless she WANTS to. So I really think the whole crying game was really a bit of theatrics for the home audience.

With Jon Kelley talking about the tourists going over the waterfall to their death, then emphasising it by saying "Kaput!"; then this fact just pointed out by michele0214 that there was a box on the beach in the Scavenger area that had a German name on it, "Trinks Brunsviga", I'm wondering if this is something pointing to Mark, whose last name "Lambrecht" is of German origin.

According to Ancestry.com, Lambrecht is a staunch German surname with 184 of the 284 instances of Lambrecht's immigrating to America (using public records as the source) coming from Germany. The other possibilities are Preussen (53), DenMark (18), Russia (14), Mecklenburg (9) and Bavaria (6).

Apparently in Chile, the German connection is strong, particularly in the south, where in the mid-1800's a mass immigration occurred. Then of course, Argentina was notoriously a place where the high level Nazi's went to hide out from the Allies after WWII. So, we might see more of this German connection as time goes by.

He was talking about German's going kaput...guess what German thing also went kaput ...the Deutsche Mark! (in 1999 it was replaced by the Euro.)

I think all this time the ep1/magazine clue "I lie with my eyes" actually points to Mark...and here's why:

"To lie" means you are actually doing an action. The person in the sentence is using their eyes to perpetrate some kind of lie. And a "lie" is defined in the dictionary as - "a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood."

This has been the critical error on all these theories of what this "clue" means. None of them include a person actually using their eyes to lie. Sure they are wearing glasses or some such but that doesn't mean their eyes are the main instrument of lying.

There is only one instance in ep1 of a person using their eyes to do something (besides seeing) that could actually be used in the dictionary definition of what lying is...Mark.

He uses his eyes to shed tears during a fake story about his family. The tears were a major factor in convincing people he's not the Mole but is, instead, a loving husband who's willing to do anything to help out his poor wife. And they were also a masterful stroke of falsehood; a lie!

The magazine clue is meant for the viewers to see and therefore Mark's confessional was also meant as the companion to this clue intended for the viewers.

While this will be a hard pill...er, clue... to swallow for many of you...it's NOT a lie.

(edit: I just discovered Molefan18 on the ABC boards had a post on June 4th that raised the possibility of Mark's crying as being the answer to the Magazine clue. Good job, Molefan! I wish I would have seen your post back then! )
